When I was a child I had a challenging time with self confidence. As the youngest of five children I continuously compared myself to my older siblings. When my brother started learning how to cut paper at age six I wanted to do the same thing but I was only four.
I thought I could run as fast as they did, ride a bike just like my bother and read and write just the same. When I tried these things I became frustrated and upset because I wasn’t able to do everything exactly like they did. My self confidence dropped like an anchor.
My mother tried her best to discuss to me that I was fantastic and beautiful just the way I was. She said that I would soon be able to do everything that my older brother could do. These words were good but they didn’t always work.
When I read the book, 365 ideal things to say to Your Kids, by Maureen Healy it brought me back to those childhood days when I disliked myself so much. I wish that my mother had a book just like this. Healy cleverly put together 365 sayings that are implied to help increase your child‘s self confidence, improve character development, emotional awareness, and stimulate her imagination and creativity.
Having gone through cognitive therapy for depression as a teenager I know how essential it is to think positively in purchase to increase your self confidence. Healy reinforces positive thinking for kids with her creative sayings. saying number nine really struck a chord with me. Zij beweert,
“Believe in YOU believe in your ability to DO anything your heart desires. You are a ideal child of God. look at your face in the mirror and proclaim your Greatness! Sing, “I AM GREAT” three times! O ja.”

Children need to hear how fantastic and how loved they are. This helps them feel good about themselves. I know I was loved as a child although, “365 ideal things to say to Your Kids,” would have helped me to develop into a stronger and much more positive person.
Healy recommends that you share these sayings with your children every day. After reading through them I concluded that they are much more suitable for school aged children and up. younger kids might not understand them fully. but you can rewrite them so that your little children can understand them better. If you are sharing this book with an older child have him look through the sayings and pick out the ones that stand apart and have implying for him. He can then write them down in a journal to reread later.
